Emerging Choreographer – Bursary

The emerging choreographer bursary has now closed.

Background

Phizzical Productions is working with Dance Development for Leicester-Shire & Rutland to support a research and development project which forms part of the Cultural Olympiad programme in the East Midlands funded by Igniting Ambition with support from Curve.

Power of Dance looks to work with young people (aged 16-25 years) from across Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland, bringing international choreographers to the East Midlands from New Zealand (Street), South Africa (Zulu Dance), Argentina (Tango), India (Contemporary Dance) and from the UK. The project will also work with a composer, writer and producer. The outcome of this research and development phase will be the creation of Wonderland, a dance-opera that encompasses dance styles from the aforementioned countries.

The project runs from 12 July – 20 August.  Workshops take place daily at Leicester’s Curve Theatre culminating in a performance at Curve on Friday 20th August 2010.

Opportunity

The programme has identified two bursaries for £1,200 each to support two emerging choreographers to work alongside the international choreographic team.

  • Applicants must be available for the entire workshop period 12 July – 20 August and performance.
  • Ideally applicants will be based in Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland but applicants from the East Midlands region will be considered.
