Bollywood Musicals Season

This January 2020, we are delighted to be screening five Bollywood musicals at Phoenix Cinema, Leicester, Belgrade Theatre Coventry and Square One Cinema at Coventry University that celebrate 50 years of cinematic magic created by Javed Akhtar through his iconic films and unforgettable songs. Join this very special season that celebrates his 75th birthday where he will share his craft of writing for the Bollywood musical – an event filled with wit, poetry and imagination.

Javed Akhtar is a master of the Indian musical and one of Bollywood’s most noted film writers, poets and lyricists, whose credits include the movies, Deewar, Zanjeer and Sholay along with iconic songs such as Ek Ladki Ko Dekha, Do Pal Ruka Khwabon Ka Karvan, Main Koi Aisa Geet Gaon and Kal Ho Na Ho. He is a recipient of the Padma Shri (1999), Padma Bhushan (2007), the Sahitya Akademi Award as well as five National Film Awards.
