Climate Change Commitment
Measuring our impact as we tour stories across the UK
As a national touring theatre company, travel is central to what we do. We are based in Leicestershire, but our mission is to ensure audiences across the country have the opportunity to experience ambitious British South Asian stories. That means our productions, artists and equipment travel too.
This year, we’re pleased to have received Julie’s Bicycle’s Creative Climate Tools (CC Tools) Badge, recognising our commitment to measuring and reporting our environmental impact through the Creative Climate Tools programme.
Our latest carbon report shows a total organisational footprint of 6.15 tonnes CO₂e, with travel accounting for the largest proportion of our emissions. As a touring company, that isn’t surprising, but it is something we have a responsibility to understand and manage.
For us, environmental responsibility isn’t about travelling less. Touring is fundamental to our purpose, enabling us to reach communities that rarely have access to culturally specific theatre. Instead, it’s about touring more thoughtfully, measuring our impact, and using evidence to make better decisions.
As we prepare for our next national tour, we’ve committed to a range of practical actions, including encouraging shared travel for touring teams, reducing single-use plastics, collecting audience travel data, and using Julie’s Bicycle’s Creative Climate Tools to benchmark our environmental impact and inform future touring.
This is only the beginning. By measuring our impact year on year, we hope to build a clearer understanding of where we can make meaningful improvements while continuing to bring theatre to audiences across England.
We’re grateful to Julie’s Bicycle for supporting cultural organisations to better understand their environmental impact and helping the sector work towards a more sustainable future.
