Phizzical Launches Hanbo Talent Development Commissions Programme in Honour of Valued Board Member

Phizzical, a pioneering company with a 20 year history of creating non-traditional pathways for  emerging creatives and producers to develop their skills with hands-on training announces the launch of the Hanbo Talent Development Commissions programme.

The Hanbo Talent Development Commissions programme will empower emerging creatives and producers to develop interpersonal professional skills and gain valuable experience in administration, finance, marketing, project management, health & safety, stewarding, customer care, IT skills, and communication as they put on events for communities. We are looking for up to 10 young and emerging producers who will benefit from training and mentorship over the next 6 months, and a commission to put on activities and events that they co-create and curate with us.

We hope this initiative, which is dedicated to the memory of Hannah Barker, a cherished board member who recently lost her battle with cancer, will be an annual offer.

Hannah Barker joined Phizzical as a board member in 2021 with a mission to connect and support young and emerging talent from all over the Midlands and to encourage collaboration among companies. She envisioned a cohesive approach to talent development, ensuring that opportunities were accessible to all. During her time with us, Hannah developed this programme of work and Phizzical is committed to continuing her mission to empower and uplift emerging artists and creators.

Hannah was a vibrant presence within our company, infusing us with her dynamism, spirit, and boundless energy,” expressed Samir Bhamra, Artistic Director of Phizzical. “Her inexhaustible zest for life and for supporting new talent was truly infectious. We are committed to celebrating her legacy and ensuring that Hannah Barker’s vision continues to inspire through this commission.”

Hannah was educated at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London and previously worked at the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry and at the Manchester Royal Exchange. Throughout her career, Hannah spent many years supporting artists and communities across the Midlands, leaving an indelible mark wherever she went. She was “an inspiration to everyone who had the pleasure of working with her” and was described as a “true force of nature, with endless energy.”

To honour her legacy and commitment to nurturing emerging talent, Phizzical is delighted that the Hanbo Talent Development Commissions has received funding from National Lottery Community Fund Awards for All.

“We are immensely grateful to the National Lottery players whose generosity has made this project possible,” expressed Samir Bhamra, Artistic Director of Phizzical. “They empower us to make a tangible difference within our community, ensuring that young people have access to invaluable opportunities for growth and development.
