Pakistan’s biggest celebrity actress Mahira Khan will be ‘in conversation’ with BBC Asian Network presenter Noreen Khan.

Making her film debut in 2011’s Bol – one of Pakistan’s highest grossing films of all time – Mahira has gone on to find success in TV and Bollywood, appearing last year opposite superstar Shah Rukh Khan in Raees.

Mahira’s star rose in the TV drama Humsafar, regarded as a turning point for the Pakistani television industry.  Many attributed the series with playing a seminal role in the revival of the local television drama industry.  Mahira subsequently played lead roles in many popular dramas and films, including Shehrezaat, Sadqay Tumhare, Bin Roye and Ho Mann Jahan.

Raees marked an important milestone as the first leading Bollywood debut for a Pakistani actor opposite any of the three ruling Khans of Hindi cinema. She’s similarly credited as the first and only Pakistani actress to enter Bollywood’s ‘100 crore’ (100 million) club due to the film’s successful run at the box office.

Mahira’s most recent performance in Shoaib Mansoor’s Verna, garnered international praise and appreciation from the world over. The socially driven drama addresses issues of rape and misogyny and considers the worth of women in Pakistani society, and was widely lauded for its scrutiny of these relevant and timely issues.

With countless awards for her performances including The Lux Style Awards, Hum Awards, and ARY Awards, and internationally The Femina ME Awards and Vogue Beauty Awards, she is also the face of leading brands including Lux, Veet and Coca-Cola with a recent appointment as the first Pakistani ambassador for L’Oréal Hair Care.

With a fan base which transcends borders, Mahira has a following of millions. She is a seen as a source of inspiration and a strong role model for many. She has spoken actively on platforms such as the Global Teacher’s Prize Ceremony by the Varkey Foundation, the Aga Khan University Special Lecture Series and TEDxLahore, sharing her story and journey to inspire others.

With three new projects in the pipeline, Mahira will soon be seen in Meenu & Farjad’s Saath Din Mohabbat In opposite Shehreyar Munawar and Bilal Lashari’s Maula Jutt 2 opposite Fawad Khan this year.
