Artist Ben-azeera Lela has worked with women who have migrated to the UK from different parts of the world but have roots in South Asia to explore their journeys and most importantly their achievements and contributions in this exhibition.
Women who have roots from South Asia have survived in a ‘different’ world despite their experiences. Theirs is a story of adapting whilst still trying to hold onto their cultural and social identity. In some cases the women and their families have moved several times to find that perfect place to settle and call home. In other cases the women come from families that would have migrated to other places before they were born so that they could have a better future. Others were born here but still have roots in South Asia.
